What We Truly Seek – Ezekiel 20-21 – September 7

“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Because you people have brought to mind your guilt by your open rebellion, revealing your sins in all you do – because you have done this, you will be taken captive.”

In this passage God is speaking literally!  But I, however, couldn’t help but see the analogy to sin in our lives today. While we may not physically be taken captive are we not taken captive figuratively?  For instance, when we put other things before God in our lives, which is a sin.  Those things that we put before God often become idols; they have priority and become our focus above all else. Does the drive to have more, the drive to be successful, to have great wealth to have a fancier car, a bigger house, the biggest flat screen TV available, the latest in technology, etc., do they not hold us captive? Pornography certainly does, adultery certainly does, our desire for rich foods certainly does. The need to be satisfied, be it with things, food, or the lust of the eyes, etc., lead us down the wrong path and before long we are enslaved, captive, to that which God does not desire for us.

“Open rebellion, revealing that rebellion in all that we do.”  Words written long ago and yet for many could have been written today, perhaps for me and perhaps for you.

God’s desire is for us to have a right relationship with Him. God’s desire is that we would be satisfied with all that He has to offer. Allow God to be the one who fulfills your every need and desire. No one can out-give God and you cannot find that which you truly seek in the world.  It can only be found in the one who knows us best; the one who designed us for relationship; the one who wants us to have life and have it abundantly; that being our creator God.

Believe it or not what you seek is God which is why worldly success and the things which money can buy to not completely satisfy and we are always left longing for more.  It is because what we truly seek and desire is God!

Until next time,
